Feel free to experiment with toppings! Poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or even a sprinkle of dried herbs can elevate these simple breadsticks into something truly special. They are a fantastic accompaniment to any appetizer spread or a delightful snack on their own.
Ingredients

Method
- In a bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt. Whisk them together thoroughly. If you're adding any parmesan cheese or garlic powder, mix them in now.
- Add the water and olive oil to the bowl. Stir with a spatula until just combined. Transfer the mixture to a lightly floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes until a smooth, pliable dough forms. If using cheese or whole grain flour, you might need a tiny bit more water.
- Shape the dough into a rough rectangle (about 11 x 7 inches) directly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use your fingertips to gently flatten it.
- Brush the top generously with olive oil or melted butter. Sprinkle with your chosen seeds. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until puffy.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Using a pizza cutter, slice the dough crosswise into ½-inch wide strips. Pick up each strip by the ends and gently stretch it to make it longer and thinner. Place the stretched strips onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. The exact time will depend on the size of your breadsticks and your oven. Keep an eye on them to prevent thinner parts from burning.
💡 Tips
- For extra flavor, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese or garlic powder to the dry ingredients in step 1.
- Ensure the water is lukewarm (not hot) to properly activate the yeast.
- If you don't have a pizza cutter, a sharp knife will also work for slicing the dough.
