Baklava is a beloved Greek dessert, but making it from scratch can be time-consuming. These baklava cups simplify the process by using pre-made mini phyllo shells, so you can enjoy the same honeyed, nutty goodness in just 30 minutes.
The secret is in the syrup: a simple blend of sugar, honey, lemon juice, and water that gets spooned over the warm nuts, letting every bite become perfectly moist and flavorful. They're ideal for parties, holidays, or whenever you crave a taste of Greece.
Ingredients
Converted amounts are rounded.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, lemon juice, water, and honey. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Then reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for 4 minutes without stirring. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature while you prepare the cups.
- In a food processor, pulse the nuts until coarsely chopped. Transfer them to a medium bowl, add the cinnamon, and stir. Pour in the melted butter and mix until the nuts are well coated.
- Arrange the 30 mini phyllo shells on a rimmed baking sheet. Divide the nut mixture among the shells, using about 2 teaspoons per shell, and gently press down with your fingers. Bake for 10 minutes at 350°F.
- As soon as the shells come out of the oven, spoon the cooled syrup over the nuts—about 1 teaspoon per cup—then add another 1/2 teaspoon to each, using all the syrup. Let them rest at room temperature for at least 6 hours or overnight so the flavors meld and the shells soften. Serve as is or drizzle with melted chocolate if desired.
💡 Tips
- Make sure the syrup is completely cool before spooning it over the hot shells to prevent them from becoming soggy.
- For a more intense flavor, toast the nuts lightly in a dry skillet before chopping.
- These baklava cups can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
