Imagine little smoky sausages wrapped in crispy bacon, glazed with a sweet and spicy brown sugar crust. That's exactly what these bacon wrapped smokies are all about – a crowd-pleasing appetizer that disappears in minutes.
They come together with just four ingredients and minimal effort. You can assemble them a day ahead or freeze them unbaked, then pop them in the oven when guests arrive. The result is a perfect balance of salty, sweet, and spicy in every bite.
Ingredients
Converted amounts are rounded.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Cut each slice of bacon into three equal pieces. Wrap one piece of bacon around each mini sausage and secure with a toothpick.
- In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar and cayenne pepper. Roll each bacon-wrapped sausage in the mixture until coated. At this point, you can place them in a single layer in a freezer bag and freeze for later.
- Arrange the coated sausages on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Bake for 10 minutes.
- Flip each sausage over with tongs and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and caramelized. If baking from frozen, add 5 extra minutes.
💡 Tips
- For extra crispiness, place the baking sheet on the top oven rack.
- These can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator.
- Leftovers reheat well in an air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
