Creamy Homemade Pecan Butter

Make your own rich, creamy pecan butter in just 15 minutes with only three ingredients. Perfect for spreading on toast, adding to smoothies, or enjoying by the spoonful.

If you love nut butters, this homemade pecan butter will become a staple in your kitchen. It's surprisingly simple to make and tastes far better than anything from the store. The natural sweetness of pecans shines through, with a hint of cinnamon and salt to balance it all.

This recipe is incredibly versatile—you can double or even triple the amount of pecans to make a larger batch. If you do, consider toasting the pecans in the oven instead of a skillet for even roasting. The result is a silky, spreadable butter that's perfect for toast, drizzling over oatmeal, or adding to your favorite baked goods.

Method

  1. Place the pecans in a large skillet and toast over medium heat, stirring frequently, until fragrant. Be careful not to let them burn; this takes about 4 to 8 minutes.
  2. Transfer the toasted pecans to a food processor or high-speed blender and let them cool for a few minutes. Then blend, stopping often to scrape down the sides with a spatula. The mixture will be crumbly at first, but eventually it will turn into a super-creamy butter. Be careful not to let it get too hot, as this can cause the oils to separate. If needed, pause and let the mixture and machine cool down. The blending time depends on your machine—an old food processor might take 10 to 15 minutes, while a high-speed blender like a Vitamix can do it in 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Add a pinch of salt and the cinnamon (if using). Blend again, taste, and adjust with more salt or cinnamon if desired.
  4. Pour the pecan butter into a small jar and seal with a lid. Store at room temperature for up to 1 month, or in the refrigerator for several months.

💡 Tips

  • For an even roast, spread the pecans on a baking sheet and toast in a 350°F oven for 8-10 minutes, stirring once.
  • If the butter separates during storage, simply stir it well before using.
  • Add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup for a sweeter version.
