Crispy Wonton Cups with Crab and Sweet-Sour Apricot Sauce

These bite-sized wonton cups are filled with a creamy crab mixture and baked until golden, then served with a tangy-sweet apricot dipping sauce.

Forget the fuss of folding wontons—these easy cups deliver all the flavor of classic crab rangoon without the risk of a leaky pocket. A simple cream cheese and crab filling bakes inside crispy wonton wrappers, while a quick sweet-and-sour apricot sauce adds the perfect finishing touch.

Perfect for parties, game day, or any gathering, these appetizers come together in under 30 minutes. Serve them warm, topped with fresh chives, and watch them disappear.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F with a rack in the center. Spray a standard 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray. Press one wonton wrapper into each cup, flattening the bottom. Lightly spray the tops of the wrappers with cooking spray.
  2. Bake the wrappers for 8 to 10 minutes, until golden brown and beginning to crisp.
  3. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine the garlic, crab meat, softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup chives, soy sauce, and salt. Mix gently until well blended.
  4. Divide the crab mixture evenly among the pre-baked wonton cups.
  5. Return the muffin tin to the oven and bake for about 10 minutes more, until the filling is heated through.
  6. While the cups bake, prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, stir together the apricot jam, the remaining 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and the rice vinegar until smooth.
  7. Transfer the baked wonton cups to a serving platter. Sprinkle with additional sliced chives. Serve warm with the sweet-and-sour sauce on the side.

💡 Tips

  • For best results, use jumbo lump crab meat and pick through it carefully to remove any shell fragments.
  • If you don't have a muffin tin, you can shape the wonton wrappers over the back of a mini muffin tin or in small oven-safe bowls.
  • The sweet-and-sour sauce can be made a day ahead and refrigerated; stir well before serving.
