This chocolate bark, often called Christmas crack, is the perfect holiday treat. It's incredibly simple to make and uses just a few basic ingredients, but the combination of salty, sweet, and chocolatey is irresistible.
You can customize it endlessly with your favorite toppings, from toasted nuts to crushed candy canes. It's great for gifting or for snacking during the festive season.
Method
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (350°F fan) and line a 25x45cm baking sheet with foil.
- Arrange the crackers in a single layer to cover the entire sheet.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat.
- Bring to a boil, whisking continuously, then cook for 2-3 minutes. If you have a candy thermometer, it should reach 275°F.
- Remove from the heat and quickly pour the mixture evenly over the crackers, using a silicone pastry brush to distribute it.
- Bake for 5 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let them sit for a minute, then spread the melted chocolate evenly.
- Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons of sea salt flakes and your chosen toppings.
- Let it cool completely and set before breaking into shards to serve.
💡 Tips
- Use a good quality dark chocolate for the best flavor.
- If you don't have a candy thermometer, the caramel should be thick and bubbling.
- Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
