This appetizer proves that the best things in life really are simple. Just three ingredients—butter puff pastry, fig jam, and Brie cheese—come together to create a party-worthy bite that's equal parts sweet, savory, and utterly irresistible.
The trick is a quick freeze before slicing, which gives you clean, neat pieces that bake up golden and flaky. Serve them warm, pulled straight from the oven, and watch them disappear.
Ingredients
Converted amounts are rounded.
Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Stack two baking sheets one on top of the other (this prevents the bottom from burning) and line the top sheet with parchment paper. On another sheet of parchment, roll out the puff pastry to a 12-inch square.
- Spread the fig jam evenly over the pastry, leaving a ½-inch border at one edge. Arrange the Brie slices on top of the jam. Brush the bare edge with water.
- Starting from the opposite edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log. Place seam-side down on a small cutting board and freeze until firm enough to slice, 20 to 30 minutes.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 10 even slices. Transfer the slices to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart. Bake until golden brown on the edges, 23 to 25 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
💡 Tips
- For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of black pepper or fresh thyme on top of the Brie before rolling.
- If the pastry gets too soft while slicing, pop it back in the freezer for 5 minutes.
- Leftover baked rolls can be reheated in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes.
