This vegan Parmesan is incredibly easy to make—just stir a few pantry staples together and you have a delicious, nut-free sprinkle for pasta, salads, pizza, and more. No food processor, no soaking, no fuss.
Hemp seeds give it a lovely mild, nutty flavor while nutritional yeast adds that cheesy, umami punch. Adjust the salt to your taste and keep a jar handy for a quick flavor boost on any Italian dish.
Ingredients
Converted amounts are rounded.
Method
- In a small bowl or a jar, combine the hemp seeds, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well with a fork or spoon until everything is evenly mixed.
- Taste the mixture and add the salt in small increments, stirring each time. Start with ¼ teaspoon and add more to your preference—I often add a generous pinch or two extra.
- Transfer the vegan Parmesan to an airtight container. Store at room temperature for up to 3 months. Sprinkle over pasta, pizza, salads, roasted vegetables, or any dish you’d like a cheesy, savory boost.
💡 Tips
- For a finer texture, you can pulse the hemp seeds briefly in a spice grinder or blender before mixing—but the recipe as written works wonderfully without.
- If you prefer a more intense ‘cheesy’ flavor, add a tiny pinch of white miso paste (though it will no longer be strictly nut-free if you add it).
- Use this as a 1:1 substitute for traditional grated Parmesan in most recipes.
