Greek frappe is more than just a coffee; it's a cultural institution. This frothy, refreshing iced coffee is the perfect pick-me-up on a hot summer day, and it's incredibly easy to make at home.
The secret lies in the vigorous whisking of instant coffee, sugar, and a tiny bit of cold water to create a thick, creamy foam. Once you master the basic recipe, you can customize it to your liking with milk and different levels of sweetness.

Method
- Get a tall glass, a teaspoon, and an electric whizzer (frappe mixer).
- Add the instant coffee, sugar (if desired), and about 2-3 tablespoons of cold water to the glass. You want just enough water to cover the coffee, plus one extra tablespoon.
- Whiz the mixture vigorously until a thick, creamy foam forms.
- Pour the foamy mixture into the serving glass (if you used a mixing glass, otherwise it's already in the serving glass).
- Add 3 ice cubes and the evaporated milk if you're making 'me gala'.
- Fill the glass with cold water and serve with a drinking straw.
💡 Tips
- For a creamier frappe, use a blender instead of a whizzer, but be careful not to over-blend.
- If you don't have evaporated milk, regular milk works too – just add it after the foam is formed.
- Adjust the sweetness to your taste: Sketos (unsweetened), Metrios (medium, equal coffee and sugar), Glykos (sweet, double sugar).
