Method
- Lightly grease a 9" x 13" metal baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, both sugars, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
- Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add the flour and sour cream (or yogurt), alternating between them until just combined. Mix for an additional 30 seconds.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
- In a separate small bowl, mix together the topping ingredients: brown sugar, cinnamon, chopped walnuts, and chocolate chips.
- Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the batter.
- At this point, you can cover the pan and refrigerate it overnight for baking the next morning. If baking immediately, preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes if baking immediately, or 40-45 minutes if the cake was refrigerated overnight. The cake is done when a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
💡 Tips
- For best results, use room temperature eggs and sour cream/yogurt.
- Ensure your butter is softened but not melted for optimal creaming.
- Leftovers can be stored covered at room temperature for up to 3 days, or frozen for longer storage.
