This recipe offers a delightful way to prepare chicken cutlets, infusing them with bold flavors and a creamy texture.
The combination of smoky spices, the mild heat of jalapeños, and the richness of cheese creates a satisfying dish perfect for any occasion, especially when you need a meal on the table fast.
Ingredients
Converted amounts are rounded.
Method
- In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon cumin, 1 teaspoon chili powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Evenly sprinkle this mixture over both sides of the chicken cutlets.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the seasoned chicken cutlets in the skillet. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, turning once, until they are golden brown and an instant-read thermometer registers 165°F in the thickest part. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
- Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the same skillet. Add the finely chopped onion and jalapeños. Sauté, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes until they soften and begin to brown.
- Pour in the chicken broth and add the cubed cream cheese. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly to help the cream cheese melt and incorporate into the sauce. Continue to cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Stir in the shredded Cheddar cheese until it is fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Return the cooked chicken cutlets to the skillet, along with any juices that have accumulated on the plate. Turn the chicken to coat it thoroughly in the creamy jalapeño sauce.
- Serve the chicken immediately, garnished with chopped fresh cilantro, if desired.
💡 Tips
- For a milder heat, remove all seeds and white pith from the jalapeños before chopping.
- Adjust the amount of jalapeños to your personal preference for spice level.
